Header Graphic for Personal Website
Like the writing for your personal website, consider this assignment as a draft. You'll have lots of time to completely revise your header, but you'll get nowhere if you don't start learning Photoshop and playing with the tools. This assignment starts that introduction!
Expect to spend about 90 minutes completing this assignment, not counting the time you'll spend finding a picture or viewing the video tutorials. If you have any experience with Photoshop you'll likely cut that time in half.
Your Task
- Get an image that you can use (for now!) as part of your header graphic. Find one at Freefoto.com. (I recommend Freefoto.com because the photos can be used freely as long as attribution is provided. Don't use copyrighted images from the web. It isn't cool.) Better still, take a picture for yourself!
- Using the image as a starting point, create a header graphic (JPEG, GIF, or PNG) that is 770PX wide and 100PX high.
- Add the header image to the branding area of your Personal Website Template, save your template, and update all the pages based on that template.
- Make your header image into a link to your home page (index.html).
- Email me both the final (JPEG, GIF, or PNG) image and the Photoshop document (.psd) image to me before class begins!
Need Some Help?
- Use the Basic Header Graphic in Photoshop tutorial to help you with the creation of the image.
- Use the Dreamweaver - Insert Header Graphic tutorial to help you get that image into your web template.
- Use the Dreamweaver - Make Header Image into Home Link tutorial to help turn the image into a link to your index.html page.
- Still confused? Download the PSD file actually used in the Basic Header Graphic in Photoshop tutorial and play with that a bit before attempting your own graphic.
- Still worried? Relax! This is just a draft header graphic to get you started with the tool. You'll change things as the term progresses.
Don't like the look? Restyle!
