I think I am off to a good start with this Discourse analysis Project. I have a solid amount of knowledge about hockey sticks, you could even say I’m Fluent in the Discourse by enacting gee’s values “Saying, Doing, Being, Believing, and Valuing.” I think I will be able to engage in the scholarly conversation in Practices, Identities, and sign systems and knowledge. In the practices paragraph I can get into how to prepare your hockey stick for use EX taping, cutting, and waxing. Then in Identities I can get into some of the moves you can do in a game with your stick as well as how to shoot. Lastly, I think it could be interesting to talk about Hockey lingo as it relates heavily to the Systems and knowledge element of being in a Discourse, without knowing what “sauce it” means you could find yourself lost out there on the Ice. In competitive hockey there is no room for slip up on your Discourse elements as doing so could result in injury, or even worse getting cut from your team. That’s why I choose the topic because I believe their are some specific outlines that you need to be aware of to fit it. I also think the stick is the best way to show light on more aspects of the game as they come up when the stick gets there. This project will differ from my Half Pecka-Kucha because that only shed light on how to properly buy a stick, in my Discourse project I will get into related topics as relate back to Gee’s elements of a Discourse.
