As a huge music lover, I’m constantly going to concerts. Although I would prefer to use my own photos during my daily creates, I was inspired to use this photo because it’s a picture of my favorite singer and the picture was taken by one of my friends (http://www.nkatsphoto.com). The singer, Lights, is constantly using bright vivid colors with everything she does (I mean do you see her hair?) so I knew a picture from her most recent tour would suffice.  Even though I was at this show I was too close (and too busy dancing) to get an action shot like this.

I took this picture at a music festival this past week but I didn’t know what to use it for since the face was so…unique. When I saw that this was the daily create, I automatically knew I wanted to use it. I usually work Mondays so it was nice to have the day off, so my face in this picture represents how I feel pretty accurately.

I was super excited to see this daily create because whales are my absolute favorite! As I’m typing this, I’m literally wearing a t-shirt with a humpback whale on it while laying on my sperm whale pillow with a whale blanket. You can call me the crazy whale lady! I decided to use a picture of a humpback whale (named Owl in case you’re wondering) that I took while working on a whale watch last summer. I then figured why not add myself on top of the whale, so I edited a photo of me in Photoshop. Using PS I was able to isolate my body from the background, and just drag it over to the image of the whale as a new layer. From there I scaled my body so it was smaller, and then rotated it to be on top of Owl’s head.

Turn a Gif into a Fig

I used giphy.com to find the gif I wanted to use. I used my favorite scene from The Office for the gif, sourced https://giphy.com/gifs/television-the-office-koi-pond-13iE6Ze4BPwAZq/media . To reverse the gif, I used ezgif.com and was able to copy and paste the url from giphy to their website. The site allows you to edit the gif in many different ways, or…

I used this picture because I thought it was one of the prettiest sunsets I’ve ever seen. It’s an older picture that I took in Delaware. It was funny that this was the daily create because the other day I was clearing out old photos and I almost deleted this picture, but I kept it just in case.

I uploaded the video to GIPHY  since that’s the program I used to created my first gif and I found it fairly easy. I added the text on the same program.

Color Walk Timelines

I chose the color teal for my color walk timeline. While taking the pictures were easy (mostly due to the fact that my friend and I accidentally wore the same color, hence why I chose it) I had a lot of trouble with figuring out the Timeline Js instructions. Eventually, with some help from a friend, I was able to figure it out for the most part. I thought teal was going to be a harder color but we ended…

Eventually, with some help from a friend, I was able to figure it out for the most part. I thought teal was going to be a harder color but we ended up finding a lot more teal items than we thought. Some pictures were taken within a few minutes of each other because we found so many teal items on the same street.

No matter what I do and how often I apply sunscreen, I still manage to get burnt. My left arm is constantly red and about three shades darker than my other arm because it always gets burnt on my 20 minute drive to work. During the archaeology dig the past few weeks, I applied SPF 70+ water-resistant sunscreen (because yanno, working on a beach) and on the first day both of my shoulder blades could have been mistaken for a lobster.

I really enjoyed this daily create! I got a wicked good shot of a biface the other day and didn’t really have anywhere to share it since I didn’t have enough to write a blog post about it. This daily create allowed me to put my photo to good use, and to share my love and passion for archaeology. As I said in the photo caption, if more people cared about archaeology then we wouldn’t struggle with funding and demand for excavation.  People only care about large “wow” artifacts, and even then it only captures their attention for a few moments. By letting people know that “those little flecks in the ground” tell us that there was civilization living off this same land thousands of years ago, it really sparks their interest because it makes them think about the history of the land.
