This assignment was a fun look at the work done throughout the semester. I uploaded all of my pictures and a video onto my Photos app on my computer. Once they were all uploaded, I created a new slideshow in order to put them all together. Once they were in an order that I liked, I exported the slideshow onto my desktop. From there, I tried uploading it onto YouTube, but it continued to reject my video. So, I shared the video from my desktop directly to my YouTube account and it worked that way.

I chose these works because I enjoyed making these the most. It was fun to make memes and learn how to make videos and FIGs!

For this assignment, we had to turn a GIF into a reverse GIF, which is called a FIG.  This seemed like an interesting way to change the outcome of a short clip.

I first went on giphy.com to find an already made GIF. I found the clip here. Finding a GIF was a lot more difficult than I anticipated. There are so many choices to pick from. However, the search had to be somewhat specific because all of these GIFs are either already made with wording, or they’re made without a lot dramatics, especially when put in reverse order. At first, I spent some time looking up television shows that I enjoy and that have some fun dramatics, but when I put them in reverse order, they didn’t come out the way I wanted them to.

I decided to go with the penguins because the original clip was cute. A penguin on top of a soccer ball is pretty interesting. Then he gets knocked down. The reverse came out pretty nice. In order to make it a FIG, I researched, “How to reverse a GIF” on Google. It brought me to ezgif.com, which was extremely easy to work with. All I had to do was insert the URL from the original GIF and press ‘submit.’ When I did this, I also slowed down the rate of the newly made FIG for it to be readable. Once I got it to the speed I wanted, I hit the ‘save’ button and it downloaded right to my computer. I was then able to upload it to my blog!

This Daily Create was pretty easy. We had to find a picture or a song, or anything really, that made our hearts sing. Even though the process of thinking of what made me happy, as there are a lot of things that make me happy, was the difficult part. I also wanted to incorporate something that I haven’t used. I was going to include my cat, but I already used him in a different assignment. So, I decided to put a picture that I took on a trip to Portland Head Light. I love going there, especially in the summer months when everything is bright and colorful. The people visiting are always very nice and everyone just loves to take pictures for everyone. It’s one of my favorite places to take my friends who haven’t been to visit the lighthouse yet.

I picked Martin Luther King Jr. because he is a pivotal man in history. His meaning and values are so important for human kind and it’s important to listen to his words and see his perspective. For a person to speak up and speak out for beliefs in a better and kinder world are important to remember. I picked Martin Luther King Jr. because he has a lot of resonating beliefs that people should be kind and people should be able to communicate no matter who the person is. It’s something that I want my future students to have in mind when we all come from different homes and cultural backgrounds.

I used the Twister tool to create the fake tweet. I wanted to use a quote that worked with education. This was a quote that Martin Luther King Jr. wrote while he was writing a paper during college. It wouldn’t let me create a PDF, so I just took a screenshot of the outcome and saved it to my computer in order to upload it.

The Fakebook tool was a lot of fun. I had no idea that this was a thing. This would actually be a great tool to have for a history project for a classroom. It says it was created for the classroom, so I could definitely try using this! Check out the link to my Fakebook profile for Martin Luther King Jr.

First, I’m sorry that this came out so terribly. That was not my intention. It looked great before I pressed the upload button on the screen. I do not have any home videos of anything, but giphy.com claimed they could create a GIF with pictures. I have a few pictures that would’ve gone well and I decided to use those. They were all about the way that I wanted to say that I had no idea what I was doing, which is clearly very true with the outcome of this GIF. I don’t know why it didn’t want to work and I’m upset that it didn’t end up working. My pictures were supposed to line up looking like I was shrugging like I didn’t know what was going on. Clearly, I have no idea what I’m doing. I don’t know what went wrong, but it’s a learning process.

This Daily Create was about trees. We had to find a tree and either write about it or just post the picture. I decided to make a short poem that describes the scene about when it happened. This occurred during the wind storm a few months ago. This happened around 5am and I was getting ready to go into fieldwork when I heard this crack and a huge thump.  However, it was still super dark outside and I couldn’t see anything when I opened my door. Once it became lighter outside, I was able to see what you can see in this picture. It is now no longer a part of the backyard as we had to get someone to remove it so my neighbor’s car could be moved. It’s pretty difficult to see in the picture, but my neighbor’s car is inches next to the fallen tree. It just barely missed it when it fell.

These pictures are amazing. I need to spend more time looking at profound pictures.  At first, I was a little intimidated because some of these pictures are very powerful and are about certain times in the past where everything was not okay.  I didn’t want to pick a picture where people were in danger or just lost a lot.

I decided to pick this picture because it made me laugh.  First, the man looks like Abe Lincoln, which might have been on purpose, I’m not sure.  Then the kid where I put the circle over is just staring at the man, maybe. I’d like to think so.

Because this picture is set in recent history, and the uncanny resemblance to Lincoln, I decided to write, “When you can’t figure out what year it is.”  This made me laugh, too, because the kid in the picture just looks so confused. Maybe he learned about Lincoln and got confused himself.

I downloaded the picture from the Boston Globe and saved it on my computer. I then put a text box on the bottom of the picture and wrote my caption. I decided to put a circle around the kid that’s looking into the distance because he’s part of the focal point of this meme.

This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the process of looking at all the pictures and looking for inspiration in the most unlikely of places.

For this Daily Create, I had some trouble trying to think of what I wanted to create. I was trying to talk it over with my dad, but he has a hard time hearing. Especially when I’m literally standing right next to him. Then, when he’s in the other room, down the hall, he has no problem hearing me. I’m convinced he has selective hearing. So, this is when I decided I’d make a pie graph over the fact that my dad can’t, or won’t, hear me when I’m talking to him about important stuff like my English homework!

I used the website, Kids’ Zone, to create my graph. It’s a website that I’ve used in the past to teach students how to use graphs and their components before they move on to any Excel documents. It starts out asking what type of graph you want to create. I wanted something visual and colorful, so I decided a pie chart would work best. After, all you have to do is add the labels and the numbers for your graph. You can even change the font and the size of the letters and numbers. It’s super easy to use and it’s very straightforward. A wonderful tool for the teaching world (and for anyone, really)!

For this assignment, I decided to look around for the color orange. Orange is my favorite color so I thought it would be fun to look up and see how many items are orange around where I live.

It’s funny to look around for something particular and to see how many objects are that color. I thought I would have a difficult time looking for orange objects, but I was able to find plenty. I even found an orange car. Actually, I saw two on my walk, which was odd. I mean, orange is my favorite color, but I’m not sure I would want an orange colored car.  I did get some odd looks when I was trying to take pictures of orange objects. Oh well!

Another aspect that I noticed, is how many construction items are around.  There are so many orange cones in all different shapes and sizes. It’s crazy and I am now very tired of seeing them everywhere.

In order to make my Time Line, I had to create a Flickr account. I have never had one before. I don’t think I want to keep it either, but I’ll wait until this course is over to delete my account. It might be handy at some point in the future for any assignments. Other than making an account that I didn’t want, the process was very simple.  Once all the pictures were uploaded, all I had to do was paste the URLs into the timeline and hit the ‘publish’ button. Super easy!

I used “Inside Out” as my inspiration for this animated GIF.  I loved this movie.  If you don’t know it, it’s about all the different emotions a person can have and the “inside” look on how we use those emotions in sorting out whatever may be going on in our lives.  It’s a great message that if we’re a little sad, angry, or scared, we can always find our happiness, even if it takes us some time.  If you haven’t watched it yet, definitely go do that.

I chose this particular scene because I think it demonstrates the different emotions all at once very well.  Because I want to be a teacher, it’s important to be able to teach students that having different emotions is okay and to figure different ways to stay calm and restore our “happy place” in order to stay focused.  A lot of worksheets and strategies use “Inside Out” as key indicators for students to find an easier way to discuss how they’re feeling and how to verbalize their thoughts.

I got the clip from this YouTube video. I then used the website giphy.com to create the animated GIF.  I’ve never used this website before, nor have I ever made a GIF before, but it was so easy.  The only thing that was difficult, was finding a clip that was less then 15 minutes long.  The website can’t do anything with videos that are over that time limit.  Once I uploaded the clip, I was able to determine the speed and at what point in the clip I wanted the GIF to start at.  Then, all I had to do was finish uploading the video and it was posted to the website.  It even gives you an embedded code for easy transfer to your blog.

This is the “before” picture of my kaleidoscope.

This was an interesting experiment! I had no idea if I would like the outcome of turning a picture into a kaleidoscope.  However, with a few Google searches, I was able to find a website that I could upload a picture into and it turned it into a kaleidoscope for me.

I used http://funny.pho.to/kaleidoscope-photo-effect/as the source for creating this picture. It was super easy. All I had to do was upload my picture and it did the rest. It also gave the option to crop the picture, but I decided to keep it the way it automatically did it for me.  Originally, I was going to use GIMP, but it didn’t want to download onto my computer. Thankfully, there are other websites that do it right there.

I decided to come up with and use “In symmetry there is order. Through chaos there is beauty” as a way to describe my new picture. There’s something very orderly about this picture, maybe more of a pattern, but it works. There’s also a lot going on, as my water bottle decided to be part of this picture as well, hence some chaos within a fairly pretty picture of flowers. I enjoyed this Daily Create!

DS 106: Demotivate Yourself

I think we’ve all been in a group project where we think we will all have equal amount of work and yet, somehow, all the work ends up in our notebooks.  This is a classic tale for me, that’s for sure.  I feel like every time I am in a group project, I end up doing all the work. Even when we all try to divvy up the work.  This doesn’t mean that some partners won’t take one some work.  Everyone has to put in some type of effort, but the majority of the work ends up on my desk.  I always go into group projects with some sort of hope that this time will be the time that everything works out well.  But even if most of us take the time to work together, there’s always that one person who is just present at all the meetings.

This DS work was not one of my favorites.  I wasn’t too pleased with the outcome or the wording. I had other images in mind and different wording, but I decided to go with this one because it was my favorite among the others that I made.  The theme “demotivate” isn’t the best type of work for myself, as I try to find some way to bring my dry sense of humor out.  I guess the inspiration wasn’t strong enough for today’s assignment. Fingers crossed for the next one!
