Well, here’s my attempt at turning a GIF into a FIG!  Trying to figure out how to make it go backwards took some experimentation.  I picked this video because I really like this video, but it’s not super exciting backwards.  Honestly, the best aspect of playing this in reverse is the bubbles returning to my nose and mouth!  I kinda wish I’d focused on that segment a little more, and cut out the trainer with the camera directing the dolphin.  I made the video into a GIF on Giphy, then found kapwing.com to reverse it.  It’s going at half speed, a feature I liked being available.  It was neat to play around with double and half speed in reverse!  It’s not a spectacular example of a FIG, but I like it because I love the video it came from, so I’m pretty good with it.

For this DS106 assignment, my sudden cold was on the mind. Because of this, I wanted to make a GIF of someone sneezing since I thought it would be pretty funny. This video I found showed one of my favorite music artists making tons of odd faces leading up to the sneeze. I really enjoy making GIFs with Giphy since it’s very user friendly, free and has tons of features to decorate GIFs. With this assignment, however, I noticed that Giphy didn’t have a reverse option. This cause a roadblock for me. Most of my Google searches for help lead me to Photoshop, which I don’t have. Eventually I stumbled across a site called ezgif. With this, a GIF could be edited further than what Giphy offered. So I ended up uploading the regular GIF to this new website where I allowed it to play over and over infinitely as well as reverse the playback. Enjoy.

I have been really enjoying our DS106 GIF assignments. Using Giphy has become incredibly easy, to the point where I wonder why I haven’t used it before now. While making a backwards GIF may have alluded me, I was easily able to find a whole plethora of videos purposely shot in reverse. I had no idea the reverse video niche on YouTube was thriving. I went through a couple of videos and thought that most of the scenes? Stages? -would be too long to GIF. I particularly liked the wood drilling one I used and I cut at least a minute off of it to make the GIF. The popularity of these kinds of videos probably stems from the “satisfying video” trend and ASMR. I do enjoy watching wood carving so maybe that has something to do with it. I am also including the link below in case the embedded above does not work.

For this assignment we were asked to reverse a GIF in a way that creates a funny, cool or mind-blowing. I have always liked the idea of seeing fireworks in reverse and thought this was pretty cool. Seeing a trail of light in reverse is never a site for sore-eyes and usually gets you to look at a different perspective.

I looked through my videos on my phone for quite a while to see which one I thought would be the best for this assignment. This however spoke out to me the most. I personally have had a fairly rough summer with several incredibly significant people leaving my life and an all around lifestyle and personality adjustment. This night, at the Clam Fest fireworks, was the first night in a while that I wasn’t worrying about any of that. I wasn’t trying to run from reality. I was enjoying the present, doing something that made me happy, and watching the beauty unfold. This is happiness.

I really liked doing this agifs websitessignment not only because I really have enjoyed making GIF’s (this one in particular), but also because it put me into a very good mood! This assignment was fairly simple to complete. I had to trim the original clip (about 20 seconds long) to find the exact piece I wanted, upload it to GIPHY to create a GIF, and then upload it to FreeGIFMaker to reverse the GIF which gave me an embed code to add to my blog.

When this assignment came up, I knew EXACTLY what video I wanted to use.  I was at horseback riding camp, and a counselor caught the moment a small jump attempt of mine went wrong…

I uploaded the video straight to Giphy and made this there.  I accidentally spent too long playing around with stickers, filters, and captions.  I ultimately only had a caption, but maybe it would have been funnier without anything extra at all.

The story behind this video is that I was at a riding lesson that was a part of the horse camp I was at, and we were going over small jumps, but the horse wasn’t super confident in me as a rider.  We approached the jump, and the horse thought it would be better to just stop…but then changed her mind at the last minute.  What she did is called a “cow hop,” a jump from a standing start.  You can see that I wasn’t expecting that!!  At least I stayed on, though.  And man, I was glad I was female because if you look closely, you can see I land right on the saddle horn!  It was surprising and funny when it happened, even to me, and everyone, myself included, laughed a lot.  It’s a great memory and I’m glad the counselor I’d asked to take some photos happened to decide to take video and of this attempt in particular!

Hmm, now it occurs to me that “It’s good to be female” would probably have made for a funnier caption…

For this assignment, we were asked to make a GIF out of a home video. One video instantly stuck out to me. This video is when I was probably 4 years old singing a nursery rhyme I used to love. In this video it’s both my dad and I singing and him filling in the words when I don’t remember them. Though GIF’s don’t typically have sound, I thought it took away from the video a little bit. You can no longer tell what I am saying or what I am singing, nor can hear my little 4 year old voice, which is the only disappointing part! This home video was originally about 3 minutes long and I have shortened it to just 7 seconds to make it a more average length for a GIF.

To do this, I simply uploaded the video onto my computer, clicked edit, and trimmed the video several times to get the video to as short as I wanted it. From there I was able to back it up and embed the “GIF” onto this page via uploading it video onto GIPHY. It was relatively simple to do and took little effort to trim it to my exact specifications.

This assignment reminded me a lot of our previous gif DS106, so I used the same program to make it, giphy. The actual creation process was much easier this time around with prior experience at hand. Who could I use for inspiration but my lovely, precious girl, Maisie? I think she is scratching her back on my carpet, but she does this every time she comes in my room so whose to say? I don’t have many of my own home videos to use. I’m not big on recording stuff and my terrible phone camera does not encourage it so please forgive the vertical nature of the gif. At least my dogs will always be there for me.

Finding a video for this assignment was loads of fun. I actually ended up reversing a couple of videos to see which looked the best. I ended up choosing one of the little boy I babysit. To reverse this video, I uploaded the video to snapchat. I then reversed it on the app. I saved this and then made it into a repetitive video/ GIF through GIPHY. I tried using other apps to make the GIF as well. However, all of the GIFS appeared slightly blurry, similar to the one above. A lot of apps also give some trials to turn a video into a GIF, and unfortunately I have hit my free limit.  Therefore I did not have many GIF making apps to choose from.

When you finally get the corn in the hole! This assignment was pretty quick for me since I’ve been waiting to turn this video into something for the longest time. One time when I was camping with my family, my dad got really into a bean bag toss game. We like to call the game, “corn hole.” So when I read about this assignment, I knew what I would use as a video right away. Getting the video on my laptop was probably the hardest part. Since I didn’t still have the video saved on my phone, I searched for a bit on Facebook before coming across it. Apparently on your laptop, there is an option to download Facebook videos if you click on the three dots next to the share button. Then I went to Giphy again to turn it into a gif. I was going to add text to it like Giphy allows, but I decided against it since then it’s easier to recaption the gif. This will be a recurring joke in my family for a long time.
