We’re the Real Life Brady Bunch

At first I was not sure what direction I wanted to go in for this assignment. I started making a collage with some of my close friends, but then I decided to make one with my family instead.

Lola is my mother’s family name, which is where I got “The Lola Bunch” from. All of the grandkids pictured above my younger brother, niece, and I do not actually have the family’s last name. My brother and I have our father’s which is Veal and my niece also has her father’s which is Lacoote.

Top Left: Pictured here is my uncle Joseph, my mother’s younger brother

Top Middle: This is my mother!

Top Right: Pictured here is both of my grandparents, which breaks the one box per person, but my grandfather does not like taking pictures, so I had to really DIG for any picture with him.

Botton Left: This is my aunt, which is my ‘nieces’ mother.

Bottom Middle: Pictured here is my younger brother, although he looks like a giant!

Bottom Right: This is my niece! She’s technically not my niece, but I call her that anyway.

I really liked this assignment. Instead of using a website, I decided to use the app PicCollage on my phone, which was easy to use. The app itself is not free though, which is why you see the ugly watermark. The one complaint I would make about this app is that it does not allow you to choose how many boxes you would like, instead, you have to choose a pre-made template.

‘Back in the day’, I made collages all the time for friends for Facebook. You would post a status “Like my status for a collage” or something along those lines and you would then attempt to make one for every individual who liked you post. I am not entirely sure when this trend started, but that was the thing. I was always that person who would do every single one and I remember spending so much time on them!

Brady Bunch Collage

I figured the best way to do this assignment was by using my actual family bunch! This includes my mother, older brother, stepfather, grandmother, aunt, step-aunt, and my dog. The family members I decided to add are the ones that I can confidently say I see the most. We almost all have different last names. Ettore belongs to my mom and her side of the family, Barrow is my stepfather and his family’s last name, and Turner is my brother and I’s last name from our father. So I thought it would be fun to add all our names in the title, more like a modern family Brady Bunch.

My family and I are not very close with my father’s family so I pretty much just stuck with my moms and stepdads family. I used canva for this assignment and it was really fun to make! Going through all the photos of my family to find ones to use definitely put a smile on my face. Especially since there are a few family members on here that I haven’t been able to see lately because of COVID. So this was a nice way to keep us all close!

DS106 Brady Bunch

For this assignment, we were asked to create a Brady Bunch like collage. Instead of using family members or friends, I wanted to showcase everything I use on a daily basis in the life of a nanny. In order from the top to the right we have:

  • a fun little ring toy with beads which is a favorite right now because it makes a lot of noise
  • a food pouch with peaches, pears and apples, also a favorite because it involves peaches
  • a diaper because we need those a lot in one day
  • a teething toy ice cream, also a big hit right now especially after it sits in the fridge for a few minutes
  • nanny probs as my title in the middle of all of these pieces
  • a bottle, a not so favorite but still needing the nutrients!
  • Connor thinking I am so funny
  • peach puffs, he loves feeding himself and these are the easiest go to snack, also a favorite because they involve peach
  • Connor and I being silly

I took a little spin on this project and I am really happy with how it turned out. I edited these pictures on my phone using the app called “color tone” and then put them onto my computer and made a collage with the website “befunky” linked here.

We’re the Real Life Brady Bunch – The OG Crew

“Whether your actual family or your close group of friends, make a collage mimicking the picture shown below. Be creative with the title. Make the title alliteration either with your last name or somesort of name you wish to call your group. In your post, explain why you chose the people you did in your collage.” This is the assignment for the second IMAGE assignment, “We’re the Real Life Brady Bunch

Reflecting on how to showcase this assignment, lately I’ve been reminiscing about my friend group from UNE and how much I miss them because together, we are a family. This is when I decided to create a collage with my friend-family group. Starting from the top left of the collage and working across the rows from left to right, the first person is Frank. Frank is a friend I’ve had since my freshman year at UNE, however, we did not close until our junior year when this entire friend group merged and he is now like a brother to me. The next person is Ben, being someone I met during the summer before our senior year. He is someone I’ve grown close with over this past year and someone I consider to be one of my best friends as he’s also like a brother to me. The next person starting the second row is Sara, who I’ve known since my freshman year as well. She lived down the hall from me in Assisi, and we never really became friends until we lived together our junior year with another friend showcased in the collage (someone I will discuss later). Sara shares my passion for wildlife and the environment and has been someone I’ve always loved to be around and have as a close friend in my life. The next person is myself, as I am a part of this friend group. The person next to me is Andrew, one of my absolute best friends. He was one of my first true friends at UNE, being someone I could lean on and go to for anything, and him being able to do the same with me. He’s had a huge impact on my life and is the person who I know I can go to with anything. The next person starting the last row is Anyssa, or Nyss as we call her. She has been a one of my best friends since we started living together junior year with Sara, and now I could not imagine not having her in my life. She’s the person who shares the same interest in music as I do (punk, metal, rock), as we plan to go a bunch of concerts together once this pandemic is over. She is also someone who I can go to with anything, a true friend to me. The last and final person – someone I specifically saved last – is my absolute best friend, Jillian. I met Jillian during the beginning of our junior year at UNE, as she was friends with Sara and Nyss first, and we instantly became best friends from the start. Not only do we share the same birthday, but we also have the same car, same personality, demeanor, and values for things. She is someone I know I will always have in my life, someone I can count on no matter what, because she’s my best friend.

Together, this friend group has become a family to me since we all came together our junior years. From the adventures to Salmon Falls in Hollis, ME, to go cliff jumping, to the endless nights of us all playing Super Smash Bros on Andrew and Frank’s couch at their house senior year, I will never forget the memories, laughter, and fun I’ve had with my friends. Though the pandemic currently going on makes it hard to see other people, we have still managed to all keep in touch and be a part of each other’s lives, and we’ll hopefully all be able to meet up once things are back to normal. We are the OG Crew, the people who stayed true to each other through everything that came our way.

Daily Create #tdc3062

For this daily create I was challenged to come up with a ghostly collage. After some thought, I wanted to connect it to children and teaching since that it was I relate a lot of my creations to for this class. I remembered seeing a lot of families posting on Facebook of their children, quite often children who I have babysat for, in face masks. The sight of it makes me cringe because I can’t help but wonder what this is doing to the minds of the children. Since I didn’t want to use any of the pictures of people I actually know, I looked up google pictures of children wearing face masks (I do not own the rights to any of these pictures). I then used the website called BeFunky to create the collage, I had used it before to mess around so it was easy to figure out. I wanted to make it black and white but I had to pay for that feature on BeFunky, so I just downloaded it to my computer and used the filter tool in my Photos app. I am happy with how this turned out because I think it really gets you thinking and it is definitely a deep meaningful “ghostly” collage. This is very unlike what you usually see from me, but I hope you still enjoy!

Daily Create: Ghostly Collage

I am not 100% sure I did this one correctly, but either way, I enjoyed making it. It gave me the ability to make it about my blog topic. The collage I made is, of course, about marine conservation. Every picture in the collage represents a different threat our oceans currently face. Including; coral bleaching, oil spills, ocean acidification, beach erosion, shark finning, bycatch, overfishing, plastic pollution, fish disease, and ocean warming. Some of the pictures were pretty haunting on their own, but I also added a filter to intensify the ghostly feel of it all. I just used a collage website to make it and then used my photos application on my computer for the filter. I wanted to portray the horrors our ocean faces in a more haunting way because each issue is pretty disturbing on its own, but having them all put together, I think, makes it all harder to ignore.
