Daily Create: Postcard

I liked making this one, it made me re-appriciate how pretty my neighborhood is. For this assignment, I once again just used the basic preview application on my computer. I chose to use a picture of the pond because it is my favorite place within the state park. I take walks there all the time, especially recently. It is a nice place to just get away from it all and relax. Also, people are constantly walking their dogs around there, which is a plus! I am very lucky to be able to live in such a beautiful place…but the bugs here are out of control.

I thought today’s daily create was a special one as we as creators are able to put our own hometowns out on the spotlight. It’s good to acknowledge our roots and pay the respect that they deserve. Even if it’s in a fun quirky Postcard format. I enjoyed going out into my town trying to find a landmark that could pose as my postcard.

In the end, I chose to focus on my town’s main office as it’s a hot-spot for the Turner public. While taking the picture I did get a couple of funny looks but was quick to take the photo and assemble what I needed. I’m not sure if people are more irritable than usual since we’ve been dealing with all this heat and the corona business. The town office is certainly an interesting place as they cater to wide variety of things. My town is quite small so this town office definitely suites our little community.

While making this postcard I used Indesign and a photo I had taken earlier in the day. I used 4 boxes to create the green border around the original image and fit the main text underneath. All in all this took me about 15-20 minutes to complete the postcard.

Greetings from Forest Avenue! This is basically the view from my apartment (I got the photo from the internet to avoid disclosing exactly where I live). I’ve lived on Forest Avenue for a few months now and it’s mostly been a very positive experience. Although it’s tough living on a busy street with little nature, I’m blessed enough to be within walking distance of Back Cove and Deering Oaks park which provide a nice break from all the concrete and care fumes.

I still can’t help but find it ironic to live on Forest Avenue and have no forest in view. I like to imagine a long time ago, before Portland became the busy port it is today (and has been for quite some time), when back cove flooded much of my surrounding neighborhood and there were no houses or roads.

For this daily create I decided to call my home – Carver, Massachusetts – Bog City. It started out as the name of our fan section during high school sports games and it just sort of stuck. We call it that because most of Carver is cranberry bogs. Everyone has a bog in either their front yard or back yard and that is NOT an exaggeration. If you ever purchase any Ocean Spray products, sometimes our small town of Carver is mentioned on the back! When I say small, I mean SMALL. My graduating class only had 80 kids. Anyways, sending my love from Bog City to all of you today!

Greetings from Queens, New York! Since quarantine, I have been staying with my boyfriend and his family in Queens, New York. I am originally from Middletown, Connecticut. I come home on the weekends to see my family and my Miniature Schnauzer, Max. I have used this website/app called Canva.com for quite some time now. They have templates to choose from or you can create your own. I often create birthday cards, posters, and even Instagram stories using this website. I replaced the pictures with my own. The first picture was taken at John F. Kennedy Airport. During the school year last semester, my boyfriend and I flew home from Maine. This sign was right outside of the gate and I loved the colors so I had to take a picture! Since the template is in black and white, the original colors are not shown. They were originally teal blue and white, a perfect color scheme! The picture on the bottom was taken most recently. It is a picture of the bridge that crosses over to Queens, I just added the colorful sky to make it pop!
